MS DHONI RETIRES FROM TEST CRICKET!!

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's decision to retire from Tests on Tuesday set the cricketing fraternity abuzz with Sachin Tendulkar leading the tributes for the India captain. Dhoni made the announcement after helping India to a draw against Australia in the third Test at the MCG on Tuesday. (In pics: MS Dhoni's life highlights)
Tendulkar, who had retired from international cricket in 2013 after the home series against the West Indies took to Twitter and congratulated Dhoni on a Test career spanning 90 matches - he was captain in 60 of them. "Well done on a wonderful career in test cricket @msdhoni. Always enjoyed playing together. Next target 2015 WC my friend!!"
well done on a wonderful career in test cricket @msdhoni. Always enjoyed playing together. Next target 2015 WC my friend!!

— sachin tendulkar (@sachin_rt) December 30, 2014
Tendulkar also told that while Dhoni has many achievements in Tests, leading India to the No. 1 ranking would be the biggest. "He has several achievements both in front and behind the stumps but leading India as the No.1 test side would be the highlight of his test career. Wishing him the very best for the defence of the World Cup in 2015," he said.
Suresh Raina, Dhoni's close friend and ally in the limited overs sides for India and Chennai Super Kings, lauded his "valiant captain", while Vinay Kumar tweeted to say Dhoni would be missed in the Test side.
Congrats Dhoni bhai on your wonderful journey of test cricket.. You will be surely missed ??
— Vinay Kumar R (@Vinay_Kumar_R) December 30, 2014
Valiant while you led. Valiant in your departure.
— Suresh Raina (@ImRaina) December 30, 2014
Dhoni retired as India's most successful Test captain, with 27 wins. He had led the team in 30 Tests at home, winning 21 but managed only six wins from another 30 Tests overseas. There was intense criticism over his tactics in the longest format of the game away from India. Dhoni's form with the bat had dipped as well and his last half-century was a fighting 82 against England at the Oval in August this year. Even as emotional tributes poured in from former and current teammates, veteran India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said he wasn't surprised by Dhoni's decision, but added he could have played for three more years. (In pics: Dhoni, the 'Superman' of a skipper)

There were reactions also from former Sri Lankan and Pakistani cricketers. Russell Arnond, former Lankan batsman said he was surprised but backed Dhoni's decision to retire.
Well done @msdhoni on a wonderful career in test cricket.

BCCI: BCCI while respecting the decision of M S Dhoni to retire from Test Cricket, wishes to thank him for his enormous contribution to Test Cricket and the laurels that he has brought to India.

BOX OFFICE COLLECTION OF PK MOVIE IN INDIA MADE A NEW RECORD!!

Box Office Collection: Aamir's 'PK' is Fastest ₹200 Crore Grosser; Beats '3 Idiots' and 'Happy New Year' Lifetime Earning

Aamir Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer "PK" has set another record by surpassing ?200 crore in nine days at the domestic box office and beaten Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" lifetime record.
"Dhoom 3", also starring Aamir, was the only film until now to have earned over ?200 crore in just nine days and now "PK" has joined the list. "PK", a satire film directed by Rajkumar Hirani, has been doing brisk business during the holidays.

"PK", also called as "Peekay", has also shattered the records of Aamir's first ?200 crore grosser film "3 Idiots" and SRK's "Happy New Year" in just nine days.

The film posted a higher second Friday and Saturday figure, compared to "Dhoom 3". The film minted ?14.44 crore on Friday and approximately ?17 crore on Saturday, taking its overall domestic total to ?214 crore.

"PK" has now become the second highest grossing film of 2014, after Salman Khan's "Kick" and fifth highest grosser of all time.

With Sunday being a holiday, the film is expected to add a huge amount to its pocket. "PK" is set for highest second weekend total, and also it will beat the records of "Kick" and "Chennai Express" if it earns more than ?20 crore on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the marketing and distribution head of Disney India, Amrita Pandey, has said that the film has performed exceptionally well both in India as well as in overseas market.

"PK has performed exceptionally well in India and many international markets, and with each day of its theatrical run, the movie is setting new benchmarks in many countries! NO.OF GBPS DATA TRANSMITED THROUGH THIS METHOD!!

OFDM(orthogonal frequncy division multiplexing)

OFDM is a high speed data trancfer method.using this method we can transmit data at a rate of 100gbps.
To overcome the effect of multi path fading problem available in UMTS, LTE uses Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) for the downlink - that is, from the base station to the terminal to transmit the data over many narrow band careers of 180 KHz each instead of spreading one signal over the complete 5MHz career bandwidth ie. OFDM uses a large number of narrow sub-carriers for multi-carrier transmission to carry data.

Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM), is a frequency-division multiplexing (FDM) scheme used as a digital multi-carrier modulation method.

OFDM meets the LTE requirement for spectrum flexibility and enables cost-efficient solutions for very wide carriers with high peak rates. The basic LTE downlink physical resource can be seen as a time-frequency grid, as illustrated in Figure below:

The OFDM symbols are grouped into resource blocks. The resource blocks have a total size of 180kHz in the frequency domain and 0.5ms in the time domain. Each 1ms Transmission Time Interval (TTI) consists of two slots (Tslot)
Each user is allocated a number of so-called resource blocks in the time.frequency grid. The more resource blocks a user gets, and the higher the modulation used in the resource elements, the higher the bit-rate. Which resource blocks and how many the user gets at a given point in time depend on advanced scheduling mechanisms in the frequency and time dimensions.
The scheduling mechanisms in LTE are similar to those used in HSPA, and enable optimal performance for different services in different radio environments

Advantages of OFDM

The primary advantage of OFDM over single-carrier schemes is its ability to cope with severe channel conditions (for example, attenuation of high frequencies in a long copper wire, narrowband interference and frequency-selective fading due to multipath) without complex equalization filters.

Channel equalization is simplified because OFDM may be viewed as using many slowly-modulated narrowband signals rather than one rapidly-modulated wideband signal.

The low symbol rate makes the use of a guard interval between symbols affordable, making it possible to eliminate inter symbol interference (ISI).

This mechanism also facilitates the design of single frequency networks (SFNs), where several adjacent transmitters send the same signal simultaneously at the same frequency, as the signals from multiple distant transmitters may be combined constructively, rather than interfering as would typically occur in a traditional single-carrier system.

XIOMI REDMI NOTE:XIAOMIS NEW SAMURAI:

Xiaomi Redmi Note:Xiaomis new samurai:

Xiaomi is going to surprise the mobile market with its next contender with bigger dimensions and hence being phablet. Redmi note is the full featured Smartphone which is going to knock Indian market till this year end. Another launch being of mi4 is also been scheduled till year end.

Sooner or later Xiaomi is going to be the top brands in India. With such smart looking and power contained phones, Xiaomi has put a challenge for other Smartphone manufactures.

Xiaomi has also set up 35 service centers across India, including two exclusive Mi service centers in Delhi and Bangalore, to ensure after-sale services for its customers. "We want to expand service centers to six. They will be in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Gurgaon."-Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi's India head of operations, told IANS in an interview.

Currently Xiaomi's products are comparable to those already being in market at price range 15000- 26000 and Xiaomi gives the same specs or better in lesser price and in Indian market where price is the prime issue for buyers, Xiaomi seems to have a bright future.

So lets quickly do a inside out check-up of Redmi Note and see what it is capable of:

 Phone:
        Xiaomi Redmi Note
Screen size &  Display
5.5 Inch IPS LCD, capacitive touch screen
 1280 x 720 pixels Resolution (312 ppi pixel density).
Processor
Octa-core 1.4/1.7 GHz Cortex-A7 (Mali 450 MP4 GPU)
OS
MIUI V5
Memory
RAM: 2GB
Internal:8GB
External: up to 32GB Micro SD Card
Camera:
Rear Camera: 13 MP, 4208 x 3120 pixels, autofocus, LED flash(1080p@30fps)
Front Camera: 5MP(720p@30fps)
Battery:
Standby time: About 2~3 days
Non-removable 3100mAh lithium-ion battery
Thickness:
9.45mm(~0.37 inch)
Connectivity:
Dual Sim: yes
2G: GSM 900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA  900 / 2100MHz
Bluetooth:BT3.0HS+BT4.0
Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot

So these specs give us a solid reason to buy this smartphone and by comparing it with other devices in same price range it is way of better.
Its expected price is shown as 14,000 Rs but I think its going to be more or less around 10,000Rs. Because when we compare it with mi3, note losses the battle. Now Xiaomi itself has increased our expectations by presenting mi3 and redmi.

Mi3 was a huge success and so was redmi . Xiaomi Note is an intermidiate version of these both. Comparing with mi3, Note lacks in processing power but with Octa core processor it enhances the parallelism. Note lacks NFC, its display has disappointed us.

Why To Buy:
Redmi Note is worth to buy if it launches in India with a price of 10,000Rs and if you dont want to pay more than that. Paying 3000Rs more and buying Mi3 is a wise choice.
Note comes with a bigger 5.5 inch screen and if "bigger is better" stands right to you then you can go for note.

Why Not to buy:
It's obvious that there are a very little specs where note stands above of mi3 and upcoming mi4. I personally don't like big display Smartphone because they create trouble in handling and I like the phone which sits perfectly in my palm and pocket.
Cpu power of note is lesser in note however being octa-core also it doesn't give you a Snapdragon processor but mediatek.

So lets hope that upcoming Xiaomi phones shine in this year end and Diwali. Xiaomi mi4 is going to be launched within some weeks in India and I will give the specs and in and out review on the same as soon as possible.

PK BOX OFFICE COLLECTION

‘PK’ box office collections success make Rajinikanth’s ‘Lingaa’, ‘Ugly’ run for cover

Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’ has become such a hit that its has left this week’s two other releases Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Ugly’ and the Hindi version of the Rajinikanth starrer ‘Lingaa’ running for cover.
With PK having maximum shows in multiplexes and single screens, this week’s release Ugly and the Hindi version of the superstar Rajnikanth starrer Lingaa seems to have started off on a very dull note. The films have opened to a very low occupancy rate; while PK has still been running to packed houses, even in the morning shows. As far as the weekend is concerned, reports suggest that the audience are sure to prefer PK over other releases.

PK’s collections have been awesome with the film collecting Rs 14.44 crore on Friday, leaving hardly any room for other releases. The latest Aamir khan movie has so far made Rs 197.53 crore at the domestic box office.

This movie Lingaa has good profit and but from the screening movie has not earned good profit.

Top 10 Ways to Boost Your Home Wi-Fi!!

Top 10 Ways to Boost Your Home Wi-Fi

10 Use the Latest Wi-Fi Technologies

One of the best ways to make sure your network is as fast and reliable as possible is to use up-to-date hardware. We've gone through the basics of router hardware before, so check out the first lesson of our networking Night School for the full lowdown. The main thing you need to know: Wireless A, B, and G are old and slow, and wireless N will give you the fastest speeds around. Note that you'll need both a wireless N router and a wireless N card in your computer if you want the full speed boost

9. Find the Perfect Spot for Your Router

Routers may be ugly, but that doesn't mean you should hide them behind the TV cabinet. If you want the best signal, you'll need it out in the open, free of any walls and obstructions. Point the antennas vertically, and elevate the router if you can (one reader found that his attic was the perfect spot). Lastly, make sure its in the center of your house, so you have the best coverage possible throughout your home. Photo by Oliver Bruchez.

8 Find the Right Wireless Channel

If you have neighbors, their routers may be interfering with yours and causing the signal to degrade. Wireless routers can operate on a number of different channels, and you want yours on a channel with as little interference as possible. Use a tool like Wi-Fi Stumbler or Wi-Fi Analyzer to find the perfect channel in your house. We have more detailed instructions on how to do that here.

7 Get Rid of Interference from Other Appliances

Other routers aren't the only thing that can cause interference. Cordless phones, microwaves, and other appliances can muck with your signal as well. Buying a dual band router can help with this, but you can also buy cordless phones on other bands too. If you don't want to buy new hardware, you can always try moving your router further away from interfering appliances, too. Photo by looseid.

6. Thwart Wi-Fi Thieves with Better Security

Even if your router has a password, it can be really easy to hack. There are easy ways to find out if someone is stealing your Wi-Fi, but the best thing to do is just lock them out with better security. Using a WPA password is absolutely essential, but even those can be cracked pretty easily—so see our security recommendations here to fully protect your network from prying eyes.

5. Control Bandwidth-Hogging Applications

f someone in your house regularly video chats, plays online games, torrents files, or uses services like Netflix, they may be hogging bandwidth and making the internet slower for everyone else. Luckily, you can use something called Quality of Service—or QoS for short—to reign in those bandwidth hogs. With QoS, you can prioritize certain applications (say, video chat) over others (like video games) so the most important applications get the bandwidth they deserve. For more info, check out our full guide to setting up QoS on your router. Image

4. Increase Wi-Fi Range with DIY Tricks

If your router still won't reach far enough, you can extend its range with simple DIY tricks. Our favorite is the Windsurfer tin foil hack, thougn you can also use an old beer can or a cooking strainer to extend your router's range. The results won't necessarily be mind blowing, but you should be able to eke a bit more distance out of your Wi-Fi network with minimal

3. Boost Your Router's Signal with a Bit of Hacking

Another great way to extend your range is to hack your router and install the DD-WRT firmware. Not only will it give you a ton of great security features and other enhancements, but it gives you the option to boost your transmitting power. This can be dangerous for your router, but most routers can handle an increase up to 70 mW without causing any issues, and you'll be able to access your network from much further away!

2. Turn an Old Router Into a Wi-Fi Repeater

If that still doesn't help, you'll need to get a range extender for your home. They aren't super expensive, but if you don't want to pay for another piece of hardware, you can actually turn an old wireless router into an extender with the aforementioned DD-WRT firmware. Note that you may not be able to get as fast of a connection through your extender, but if you just can't seem to get Wi-Fi on the edge of your house, this'll get the job done on the cheap.

1. Set Your Router to Reboot on a Schedule

If you're one of the many folks that has to reboot their router every so often so it doesn't drop out, there is a solution. You can run a few tests to make sure the problem isn't caused by heat, old firmware, or excess downloading, but an easy way to solve the problem is just automatically reboot it once a day or so. You can do this with DD-WRT or just a regular old outlet timer. When you're done, you shouldn't have to reboot your router so often (which is great if your router's all the way up in the attic)

'PK'MOVIE BANNED IN INDIA BY SUPREME COURT!!

!!pk banned by suprime court!!

PK starring Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani and Sushant Singh Rajput has managed to impress the critics and audiences big time. While the film has got cash registers jingling and is doing exceptionally well in India and overseas,  it has courted yet another controversy. Some religious extremist groups have asked fans to ban PK as they feel the film is mocking sentiments of Hindus. But the movie PK movie banned in India, the Supreme Court ruled today, rejecting a petition that said some scenes in the film hurt religious sentiment and showed nudity.

Based on a police complaint filed by Meena Kamat from Panaji, accusing the film 'PK' of hurting the sentiments of the Hindus, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), a rightwing Hindu outfit has demanded an immediate ban on the film for “hurting sentiments of Hindus by ridiculing Hindu Dharma”.

It alleged that the purpose behind producing such a film is creating confusion in Hindus’ mind and urged the police to register a case of crimes under section 153 A, along with 295 A and 34 and this film should be immediately banned.

PK Movie banned, the Supreme Court ruled today:

“If you don’t like it, don’t watch the film. Don’t bring religious facets here,” Chief Justice of India, RM Lodha, said, adding, “These are matters of entertainment.  If you restrict it, it will affect others’ rights. Everything is on the internet.  What will you hide?”

!!ERA OF ULTRA HIGH SPEED OPTICAL FIBER !!

optical fiber research for the ultrahigh-speed, high-capacity era

Internet traffic is increasing exponentially with the accelerating spread of services such as social networking and video content services. The bandwidth of optical fiber communications systems that form the backbone for this communication is also being increased yearly. However, there are limits to the increase in bandwidth and speed that can be achieved with the single-mode optical fiber currently in use, and it is estimated that these limits will be reached in ten years. Therefore, a new transmission medium that overcomes these limitations will need to be created. We are focusing on ways to spatially extend the transmission area of optical fiber, which is one way to overcome these limitations. Current optical fibers transmit optical signals using a single mode, through a single core (transmission path) within a strand of quartz glass. However, optical fiber design and production technology is advancing because of the employment of complex cross sections such as hole structures, and digital transmission processing technology.

Fiber with multiple cores in a single strand of quartz glass, and multi-mode fiber capable of transmitting stable signals with multiple modes in a single core are presenting new possibilities for novel fiber structures with higher spatial multiplexing. We have continued to demonstrate the possibilities of multicore fiber with, for example, a successful 1-Pbit/s transmission over a single 12-core optical fiber of 52 km, which is a world record (ECOC (European Conference on Optical Communication) International Exhibition, Sept. 2012.

!!WOW !! FIBER CREATED!! OPERATS AT 99.7% SPEED OF LIGHT!!

!!record !! fiber Created, that operates at 99.7% speed of light!!!

Researchers at the University of Southampton in England have produced optical fibers that can transfer data at 99.7% of the universe’s speed limit: The speed of light. The researchers have used these new optical fibers to transfer data at 73.7 terabits per second — roughly 10 terabytes per second, and some 1,000 times faster than today’s state-of-the-art 40-gigabit fiber optic links, and at much lower latency.

The speed of light in a vacuum is 299,792,458 meters per second, or 186,282 miles per second. In any other medium, though, it’s generally a lot slower. In normal optical fibers (silica glass), light travels a full 31% slower. Light actually travels faster through air than glass — which leads us neatly onto the creation of Francesco Poletti and the other members of his University of Southampton team: A hollow optical fiber that is mostly made of air.

It might seem counterintuitive, transmitting light down fibers made primarily of air, but look around you: If light didn’t travel well through air, then you’d a hard time seeing. It isn’t like researchers haven’t tried making hollow optical fibers before, of course, but you run into trouble when trying to bend around corners. In normal optical fiber, the glass or plastic material has a refractive index, which causes light to bounce around inside the fiber, allowing it to travel long distances, or Remove the glass/plastic and the light just hits the outer casing, causing the signal to fizzle almost immediately. The glass-air interface inside each fiber also causes issues, causing interference and limiting the total optical bandwidth of the link.

!! 43 TBPS OVER A SINGLE FIBER!!

43Tbps over a single fiber: World’s fastest network would let you download a movie in 0.2 seconds

A research group at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), which was the first to break the one-terabit barrier in 2009, has today managed to squeeze 43 terabits per second over a single optical fiber with just one laser transmitter. In a more user-friendly unit, 43Tbps is equivalent to a transfer rate of around 5.4 terabytes per second — or 5,375 gigabytes to be exact. Yes, if you had your hands on DTU’s new fiber-optic network, you could transfer the entire contents of your 1TB hard drive in a fifth of a second — or, to put it another way, a 1GB DVD rip in 0.2 seconds.

The previous record over a single optical fiber — 26 terabits per second, set by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology way back in 2011 — had remained unbroken for a surprisingly long period of time. DTU set a series of single-fiber world records in 2009 and 2011, but had since been forced to sit in Karlsruhe’s shadow — until now. This was obviously a pain point for the DTU researchers — the press release [Danish] announcing the new world record actually calls out Karlsruhe by name. I guess a bit of friendly competition never hurt anyone though, right?

The main thing about this world record is DTU’s use of a single laser over a single fiber. There have been plenty of network demonstrations of hundreds or even thousands of terabits (petabits) per second with multiple lasers over multiple fibers — but those demos are so far removed from the reality of fiber-optic networking that they’re not really worth discussing. When we talk about commercial fiber-optic links, we’re nearly always talking about single-laser-single-fiber, because that’s what the entire internet backbone is built upon. In other words, the techniques used by DTU to hit 43Tbps actually have a chance of making it into real-world networks in the next few years. You might soon be able to download a TV show or movie in quite literally the blink of an eye. [Read: Infinite-capacity wireless vortex beams.]

How did the DTU hit 43Tbps and steal the world record away from Karlsruhe? Well, rather amusingly, they kind of cheated. While the researchers did only use a single laser, it used multi-core fiber. This is still a single filament of glass fiber, but it has multiple individual channels that can each carry their own optical signal. In this case, DTU used multi-core optical fibers with seven cores, produced by Japanese telecom giant NTT. Back in 2011 when Karlsruhe set its 26Tbps record (with a single-core fiber), multi-core fibers were both difficult and expensive to manufacture — now, in 2014, it would seem the bugs have been ironed out and NTT is moving ahead with commercial deployments.

ANDROID 5.0 LOLLIPOP !!!!

Android 5.0 Lollipop Coming to Moto X, Moto G, Moto E and More

feature of android 5.0

Android 5.0 introduces a refreshed notification system. Individual notifications are now displayed on cards to adhere to the material design language, and batches of notifications can be grouped by the app that produced them. Notifications are now displayed on the lock screen as cards, and "heads up" notifications can also be displayed as large banners across the top of the screen, along with their respective action buttons.A do-not-disturb feature is also added for notifications. The recent apps menu was redesigned to use a three-dimensional stack of cards to represent open apps. Individual apps can also display multiple cards in the recent menu, rather than only one entry per app; for example, a web browser can show all of its open tabs as individual cards.

Lollipop also contains major new platform features for developers, with over 5,000 new APIs added for use by applications.Additionally, the Dalvik virtual machine was officially replaced by Android Runtime (ART), which is a new runtime environment that was introduced as a technology preview in KitKat.ART is a cross-platform runtime which supports the x86, ARM, and MIPS architectures in both 32-bit and 64-bit environments. Unlike Dalvik, which uses just-in-time compilation (JIT), ART compiles apps upon installation, which are then run exclusively from the compiled version from then on. This technique removes the processing overhead associated with the JIT process, improving system performance.

Lollipop also aims to improve battery consumption through a series of optimizations known as "Project Volta". Among its changes are a new battery saver mode, job scheduling APIs which can restrict certain tasks to only occur over Wi-Fi, and batching of tasks to reduce the overall amount of time that internal radios are active. The new developer tool called "Battery Historian" can be used for tracking battery consumption by apps while in use.The Android Extension Pack APIs also provide graphics functions such as new shaders, aiming to provide PC-level graphics for 3D games on Android devices.

A number of system-level, enterprise-oriented features were also introduced under the banner "Android for Work": Samsung contributed its Knox security framework for segregating personal and work-oriented data from each other on a device, along with accompanying APIs for managing the environment. Devices can also be configured so that users do not have to unlock their device with a PIN or pattern if it is within a trusted, physical location, or is in proximity to a user's Android Wear device.Device encryption will be enabled by default

400 GBPS TRANSFER SPEED ACHIEVE! NOW !!!

43 TERA BITS PER SECOND!! YES NEW RECORD!!

A new data transfer record: 43 terabits per second

A team in Denmark has broken the world record for single fibre data transmission, achieving a transfer rate of 43 terabits per second over a distance of 41 miles (67 km). They also report a speed of 1 petabit (1000 terabits) when combining multiple lasers.

In 2009, a research group at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) was the first to break the 1 terabit barrier for data transfer. Their record was shattered in 2011, when the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany achieved 26 terabits per second. Now, DTU have regained the title, demonstrating 43 terabits per second (Tbps) through a single optical fibre. This is fast enough to download a 1GB file in about 0.0002 seconds – or the entire contents of a 1TB hard drive in 0.2 seconds.

The Danish team's effort may seem almost excessive, to the point of comedy. However, current trends show that insanely fast transfer speeds like this will be necessary in the relatively near future. Like a digital explosion, the Internet continues to expand and grow exponentially – doubling in size every two years. Improvements in video quality and image resolution mean the amount of data appearing online is mushrooming to enormous proportions, while at the same time, billions more people are gaining access to the web.

This also requires energy which currently generates about two percent of CO2 emissions. Therefore, it is essential to identify solutions for the Internet that make significant reductions in power consumption while simultaneously expanding the bandwidth.

DTU's researchers achieved their latest record by using a new type of optical fibre borrowed from the Japanese telecoms giant NNT. This type of fibre contains seven cores (glass threads) instead of the single core used in standard fibres, making it possible to transfer even more data. Despite the fact that it comprises seven cores, the new fibre does not take up any more space than the standard version.

As to when speeds in the tens of terabits range might be affordable to mainstream consumers, we reckon sometime in the 2030s.

The iPhone 6 measures in at 6.9mm, while the iPhone 6 Plus is slightly thicker at 7.1mm. Apple's iPhone 6 Plus also has three major differentiating factors: optical image stabilization for the camera, and a longer battery life, and an iPad-style landscape mode that displays more content on the screen.

Though the iPhone 6 Plus has optical image stabilization, both phones got some major camera improvements in form of sensor upgrades, improved tone mapping, better noise reduction, and new "Focus Pixel" technology, which improves the phone's ability to select autofocus points. For videos, there's a new 240fps slo-mo option, along with support for shooting in 1080p at 60fps. The front-facing camera was also upgraded, with an f/2.2 aperture that lets in more light and new burst mode capabilities.

Both phones have an impressive new "Retina HD Display," with the iPhone 6 featuring a resolution of 1334 x 750 (326 ppi) and the iPhone 6 Plus featuring a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (401 ppi).

Design wise, the phones more closely resemble the iPad and the iPod touch than the iPhone 5s. Both models have soft, rounded corners and a curved glass screen that melds smoothly into the thin metal body of the device. The volume buttons on the left side of the device are now pill-shaped, and the power button is located on the right side of the device for easier one-handed use.

To further make its devices easier to use one-handed, Apple has added in a new double tap home button gesture called "Reachability," which moves items from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen for quick access.

Other new features in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus include WiFi calling support, faster 802.11ac WiFi, and support for Voice over LTE (VoLTE).

How to Buy

Apple is selling the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus both online and in its retail stores. Though supplies were initially constrained, stock of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus appears to be improving in the United States and other countries around the world. In the U.S., new orders of both devices ship in just 1 business day for 16 and 64GB models and 3 to 5 business days for 128GB models.

In store supply of both devices is also improving, with retail stores receiving shipments on a near-daily basis. The iStockNow tracking tool can be used to see which models of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are currently in stock at a variety of stores, including Apple's retail stores.

According to an Apple representative, response to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus was "incredible," setting a new record for pre-orders, and sales topped 10 million during the phone's launch weekend. While it remains uncertain whether consumers preferred the smaller iPhone 6 or the larger iPhone 6 Plus, early analysis suggests buyers favored the iPhone 6 3:1 over the iPhone 6 Plus.

Shortly after the iPhone 6 Plus was released on September 19, reports of the device bending when placed in a pocket began to surface. One user, for example, reported slight bending after the iPhone was in a pocket for approximately 18 hours, and after that, several other reports trickled in.

Inspired by the reports of bending, a YouTuber created a video depicting him bending the iPhone 6 Plus with his hands, causing significant damage to the device. The video went viral, and began people worrying about bending the iPhone 6 Plus in their pockets.

It is important to note when watching the video above that the amount of pressure placed on the device is unlikely to be replicated in daily usage. While images have depicted slight bending, there has been no extreme warpage in the casing due to carrying the device in a pocket.

Affected users have reported that Apple has replaced devices that have bent. As shown in another video, the iPhone 6 Plus is less vulnerable to bending when placed in a rigid case, and users can also avoid bending the iPhone by removing it from a pocket before sitting down.

A followup bending video featuring the iPhone 6 demonstrated that the smaller-screened device is much harder to bend and therefore likely less vulnerable to bending when placed inside of a pocket.

In response to all of the media attention that the iPhone 6 Plus bending issues garnered, Apple released a statement to several different sites saying that with normal use, bending in the iPhone is "extremely rare." The company said that only nine customers had complained about a bent iPhone 6 Plus.

In addition to releasing a statement, Apple also invited several reporters to visit its the facility where the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are subjected to several different tests to ensure strength and durability. As described in reports, the iPhones go through five different tests, including pressure point cycling, three-point bend tests, torsion testing, sit tests, and real-life testing scenarios where Apple employees use the devices.

According to Apple's head engineer Dan Riccio, the iPhone 6 was "the most tested product" Apple's ever created. The company reportedly conducted 15,000 tests on the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Apple's head of marketing Phil Schiller said that bending was extremely rare, and that the company had "designed the product to be incredibly reliable throughout all your real world use."

Consumer reports went on to test the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus after reports of bending, and found that the two devices are not quite as bendable as the media has suggested. In a three-point flexural test, the iPhone 6 Plus withstood 90 pounds of force before bending, while the iPhone 6 withstood 70 pounds of force, which is more force than the two devices are likely to be subjected to during daily use.

According to Consumer Reports, though the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are not indestructible, they "should stand up to typical use.
